When you’ve been distilling the world’s most distinctive single malt since 1815, some might consider the craft perfected. But that would be doing a disservice to the ancient souls of Islay who first put their careful skills to practice over two centuries ago; testing, tinkering, with an unwavering dedication to bettering their produce.
What you pour is what we draw from the cask
Laphroaig Batch 17 is our testament to their diligence: an authentic, uncompromising whisky of glowing gold, matured for a decade and bottled at 58.3% ABV. We stay true to its powerful, rich character by barrier filtering from the cask to remove char particles and maintain purity. We don’t chill-filter, nor reduce its natural strength – what you pour is what we draw from the cask.
And it’s unmistakably us: a whisky where the peat smoke, heather and sea salt notes run wild, complemented by a bold sweetness from the first sip: stewed apple, vanilla cream and pears in syrup, kissed with a hint of cooling menthol.
Its finish rewards the adventurous: very long, with a prickly black pepper spice and sweet grassy smoke that fades into a tarry peat aroma.
Whatever your taste, you can enjoy it your way: neat to appreciate the purity and intensity of our Islay peat, or with water like we do at the distillery – the best way to release its gentle hazes without overpowering the palate.
