The Wall Collection: Peat Edition
The first release in our new Wall Collection is Peat, a 36-year-old which puts the very lifeblood of Laphroaig’s character front and centre. A limited release of only 200, each bottle is quite literally a work of art, hand painted by London illustrator Laura Carlin with the exact paint from our iconic Warehouse No.1.
This unique and limited edition is available via ballot only to Friends of Laphroaig.
The Wall Collection: Peat Edition
The Wall Collection: Peat is a whisky with layers and layers of story to tell, and just a sip of it “takes you somewhere else”. Of course, Distillery Manager Barry MacAffer has already had the first sip.
A mix of classic Laphroaig, unique cask influence, and balance of tropical fruits, Barry agrees that it’s “a special dram for a special bottle” and recommends when tasting it to “expect the light fruits to come through. Let the smoke fill your mouth and up into your cheeks, with fruitiness dancing along the tongue”.
THE LIFEBLOOD OF LAPHROAIG, FRONT AND CENTRE
‘Peat’ tells the story of the flavour most associated with Laphroaig, making it the perfect first release in our Wall Collection, a series celebrating the people, perseverance and passion which have defined Laphroaig since 1815.
This 36-year-old single malt was finished in a heavily peated cask which reintroduced prominent smoky notes that often take a back seat as our spirit ages to allow other flavours to come forward. This finish delivers notes of soft leather and, of course, quintessential peat flavours.
The Wall Collection: Peat comes in packaging as special as the liquid itself, its box complete with a display plinth and secure fastenings.
Each of the bottles available in this release are individually hand painted by London-based award-winning illustrator and ceramicist Laura Carlin.
The bespoke artwork Laura has created on every single one of the 200 bottles of Peat is inspired by the peat bricks we use to cold-smoke our barley, their distinctive shapes criss-crossing in simple yet beautiful patterns across a tangibly textured white paint. All 200 bottles are hand numbered and signed by the artist herself.
The paint itself is the very same as that which adorns the wall of our iconic Warehouse No.1. Sitting right on the shoreline of the bay, the wall that boasts the iconic black LAPHROAIG lettering weathers sea spray and wind and rain, day after day, and sits on foundations that date back to the 1800s. The wall of Warehouse No.1 is strong, enduring, and full of character. Just like our whisky.
