Tasting Notes
Colour
Vibrant gold with a notable rose hue.
Nose
Penetrating aromas of peat smoke and iodine layered with dark chocolate, peaches and plum jam.
Palate
“Medicinal”, smoky, spicy flavours wrapped in sweet hints of honey, chocolate and marshmallow
Finish
Warm and spicy with lingering smoke and hints of coppery wine.
Maturation
While some matures in charred ex-Bourbon barrels, the rest is poured into second fill Ruby Port barriques.
WHAT FRIENDSHIP’S MADE OF
Càirdeas is Gaelic for ‘friendship’. And friendship is exactly why former distillery manager John Campbell started the annual Càirdeas limited releases back in 2008 – exclusively for Friends of Laphroaig®. The 2020 Port & Wine edition carries on this tradition with a multi-cask aging process. While some of our single malt is matured in our classic ex-Bourbon casks, another batch is aged in second-fill Ruby Port barriques. Finally, the two are combined in red wine casks to complete their journey as a wine finished whisky. This rounds out our famously rugged flavours of peat smoke and iodine with hints of dark chocolate, honey and pink peppercorn. Sip our 52% vol Laphroaig® Càirdeas Port & Wine neat or add in a few drops of water to discover even more layered flavours. Either way, we say it’s best shared with Friends.
