It’s only fitting that the perfect introduction to peated whisky draws from a broad range of casks in our storehouse. Sweet and smooth, Laphroaig® Select tells our two hundred year history of passionate distilling in every dram. To create the Laphroaig® Select blend, our Master Distiller hand-selected whiskies aged in Oloroso sherry butts, first-fill ex-Bourbon quarter casks and Pedro Ximenez sherry hogsheads at different levels of maturation. Finished in virgin American oak barrels – a rare wood source for Scotch whisky. Our most laid-back expression lets our signature flavours of medicinal peat smoke and seaweed shine, leaving plenty of room for notes of red fruit, lime and a floral finish.

Laphroaig 10 Year Old is the original Laphroaig, a true taste of the isle of Islay whisky with a more direct hit of peat smoke, seaweed, salt, and medicinal character. Laphroaig Oak Select keeps that unmistakable Laphroaig DNA, but takes it in a softer, sweeter, and more approachable direction. Crafted from hand-selected single malts from five different cask types, it brings a smoother oak influence, gentler smoke, and a more rounded first step into our peated whisky style.
Our Oak Select is unique because it brings together the craft of our whisky distillery on Islay with a broad range of cask styles. Our Master Distiller hand-selects whiskies aged in Oloroso sherry butts, first-fill ex-Bourbon quarter casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry hogsheads, and ex-Bourbon casks, before finishing the whisky in new American oak barrels. The result is a balanced, complex single malt that keeps Laphroaig’s medicinal peat smoke and seaweed character, but softens it with sweetness, fruit, and a long floral finish.
Yes. Laphroaig Oak Select is a great place to start with smoky whisky because it is crafted to be our most approachable expression. It still carries the signature Laphroaig smoke, but the cask selection brings a smoother, sweeter, and more mellow character. If you are new to Islay whisky, it offers a gentler first step into peat without losing the distinctive Laphroaig taste.
Drink Laphroaig Select Cask neat to enjoy its balance of peat smoke, sweetness, fruit, and oak. A few drops of water can open up its softer, more mellow side, while serving it over ice will gently tame the smoke. It also works beautifully in a cocktail, especially a Smoked Whisky Sour, where lemon juice, sugar syrup, and egg white or aquafaba bring a smooth, creamy texture and a sweet citrus lift balanced by Laphroaig’s signature smoke.
Laphroaig Oak Select Islay single malt Scotch whisky is smoky, but it is softer and more approachable than some of our bolder expressions. The peat smoke comes forward on the nose and returns on the palate with touches of ash and seaweed, but it is balanced by sweetness, ripe red fruit, lime, marzipan, and lingering floral notes. It is still proudly Laphroaig, just with a smoother edge.
